Alive and Well in Pakistan Subject A special message about our India-Pakistan trip
Dear friends,
Our six-week trip to India and Pakistan is now firmly scheduled for Feb 26-April 11. Our ambitious itinerary will include Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi in India, and Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi in Pakistan. We might, after all, have an opportunity to a little actual filming (along with the still photography Peter Sabo will be doing

The severe and worsening crisis in US media institutions (underscored by recent rumblings about the shocking but quite possible demise even of the print New York Times - see
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200901/new-york-times brings home the value and importance of what Fawad, Pete and I, and others we're collaborating with, are doing.
In our relatively narrow but important subject area, we're doing what the mainstream media is not doing: bringing firsthand reporting of Pakistan and Pakistanis, their human as well as geopolitical context, to the Western public. This is the purpose of our equally ambitious public speaking plans for the rest of 2009, as well as of our plans to publish and distribute material from our trip in a variety of digital media, including but not limited to video.
If you support this morally, please also support it materially. You can contribute in any amount through these two web pages, where you can read more about our work, or by check:
http://www.aliveandwellinpakistan.com http://www.speakingofpakistan.com/About_Us.html Just as importantly, you can help us by suggesting stories we should follow, and people we should try to contact, in any of the cities we plan to visit. Specifically, we need ideas and contacts in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi. In India, we'll be looking into the wider context and aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks and the situation of Indian Muslims, among other subjects.
Best regards,
Ethan
