| The second test between England/West Indies, 10 balls into the match on the first day and the ground is deemed "not adequate" to play cricket on. Watched the whole thing on Sky Sports, there are literally khadday on both sides of the wicket at bowler runups. It looks like someone dug fresh graves around the pitch that are a day old, bowlers can't run and bowl at full pace. Nasser Hussain interviewed several key people including Strauss, Hugh Morris and Haroon Lorgat. There is a word that the conditions of this ground was conveyed to ICC back in November but between ICC, ECB and WICB, one or all of the boards ignored it. And of course ICC sanctioned this match to go on. The England team arrived on the ground day before match was scheduled and Strauss confirmed in his interview to Nasser that they already saw the ground as very difficult to play on. The latest word is that the match may be rescheduled within Antigua at Antigua Recreation Ground, for the sake of logistics and about 8,000 of spectators who traveled to see this match. Officials are at the other ground site to access the conditions. What a complete farce. It is obviously confirmed that this was conveyed back in November, and between WICB, ECB and ICC, no one will put their hand up and admit that the ground was declared inadequate 4 months ago. |
