(1) Should count as a boundary.

(2) Should not count as a boundary.

pardon my knowledge but to me it seems to be a 6. Ball was in the air, he tried to catch it but dropped it...the ball remained in the air until it crossed the boundary line.

Holy guacamole, 3 whole posts!?

Amabel, you stand corrected. It was a toss-up between a six and 3 runs, not a boundary which I incorrectly mentioned.

The verdict? ICC says that the fielding effort was legal, resulting in only 3 runs.

Why it was given as such? Read the user comments at the end of the article. I am still trying to read and understand myself.

I couldn't understand the rule or comments.

well the fielding effort was surely legal and it was a brilliant effort but it was just not successful, in my opinion.
(I don't even understand the meaning of "legal" here)

Lets say everything remains the same..... and he catches the ball when he steps outside the boundary line, would it be considered a catch? I don't think so.
Per my understanding, if the fielder stops a ball but he is on or out the boundary line, its a 4.
so keeping these 2 scenarios in mind, that was a 6.
